Description

In April 1945 Johnnie Johnson was promoted to Group Captain and placed in command of the No 125 Wing. The squadron used Spitfire XIVs equipped with the latest Griffon engines. On May 8, 1945, shortly after Germany surrendered Johnson and the No 125 Squadron moved to Copenhagen Denmark. His post-war Spitfire was MV257 and was the last Spitfire to carry his initials JE-J. Johnson’s wartime record was 515 sorties, 34 aircraft destroyed, seven shared, three probables, 10 damaged, and one shared, destroyed on the ground. All his “kills” were fighters.
